10 Cruelty-Free Makeup Brands to Switch to

Catalina 6 months ago - in Shopping

The practice of beauty products being tested on animals is still more pervasive than we think. Although many international manufacturers no longer test in the UK or US, there are some who knowingly sell to the Chinese market, where animal testing is still mandatory. So we might think we are buying from an ethical company, but there is more going on behind the scenes.

The quick and easy way to know for sure is to check for the Leaping Bunny logo on the packaging. This is only awarded to completely cruelty-free companies so you can buy without worry. And there are some wonderful cosmetic companies to buy from. Here are my top ten picks:

1. Beautiful Birdie Cosmetics

A small and lesser-known brand owned by a mother and son team in New York- Beautiful Birdie makes vegan and gluten-free cosmetics. Their products are non-toxic and suitable for all ethnicities.

2. Rise & Shine Cosmetics

All of their products are not only absolutely natural but also toxin-free, vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, free of aluminum compounds and BPA free packaging.

3. Concrete Minerals

Founder Emily created a gorgeous range of vegan and cruelty-free mineral makeup. Check out their Instagram feed, it is just stunning.

4. Jordana Cosmetics

Based in LA, Jordana is a value cosmetics brand. It is good to know that cruelty-free and non-toxic does not have to mean a higher price tag.

5. Kinx

A brand after my own heart, they have an awesome range of sweat-proof makeup so you can look good while you work out.

6. Burt’s Bees

These guys make lovely lip color, and really that is about their only makeup product. But in the wider field of skincare, they have some wonderful and cruelty-free beauty products, which I love.

7. The Body Shop

Founded in the sunny coastal town of Brighton, The Body Shop is a high street staple in the UK, and we love them. Sustainable, ethical and cruelty-free of course, they have a lovely make-up range. I am personally a huge fan of their makeup brushes.

8. Wunderbrow

Wunderbrow’s popularity has rocketed in the last six months. I am pleased to report that they have their leaping bunny status too. So go on girls, power-brow it up.

9. Core Cosmetics

This company is based in Sweden and makes everything from mineral makeup to spray tan. Check out their lovely Stay Matte Lipsticks.

10. Earth Diva Minerals

These guys promise no talc, dyes, gluten, carmine, synthetic fragrance, bismuth oxychloride, nanoparticles, methylparaben, propylparaben, or corn starch. They also offer free delivery, and their products look great.

I remember the first time I realized I was using a product made by a company that is involved in animal testing for the Chinese market. I was scrolling through a conversation about it on social media. I looked across at my cat and just felt sick with guilt. Animals are innocent and really don’t deserve to be used for such a superfluous and cruel activity.

I made myself (and my cat) a promise then to always check for the Leaping bunny logo before buying. And I have since discovered there are so many great products out there that are kind to humans and animals alike. So we do not need to compromise, we can have it both ways.
