How to Draw Your Boss’s Attention

Whether it’s your first job or your fourth, or you’ve been working for this company for many years, you may want to boost your career and get a promotion. Working too hard is great but it won’t help you get promoted fast. Most bosses don’t notice a hard work so you should be smart enough to draw your boss’s attention to your ideas and projects. Don’t run to an extreme, though. You don’t want to be too insistent and clingy. Here are some of the best tricks that you can use to draw your boss’s attention and boost your career.

Go the extra mile

When it comes to a promotion, leaving work each day at 5 pm sharp won’t boost your chances of getting a raise. You have your own responsibilities and you know your work time. Do your job well and get your paycheck each month, but don’t expect your boss to notice you, especially if you work for a big company. Successful people claim that going the extra mile is a must at any type of work. If you work till midnight each day but you see no results, then consider other ways to reach your career goal.

Be ambitious

If you show a lack of ambition at work, you will never become a better employee. It’s okay to be a bit lazy and less ambitious once in a while, but don’t make it a habit. You boss may not notice you because you do only what you have to do in order to get your paycheck. Sure, you don’t have to work till midnight, but suggesting some ideas and doing a few extra tasks regularly may help to take your career to the next level.

Don’t ask for a raise

Bosses don’t like beggars. If you do what you have to do and always say no to every extra task that your boss asks you to do, but you are constantly moaning about a small paycheck, you will never get a raise. Many workers refuse to do extra work for the same pay, which is why they can’t get a promotion. You shouldn’t allow your boss to overload you, though. If he asks you to work on Saturday because of some important project once in a month or year, then why not? If the company has some financial difficulties, doing more for the same pay may help you a lot in the future, too.

Remember your boss’s birthday

Whether your boss is good or bad, remember their birthday and send them a small gift on that day. It’s also great if you have an opportunity to call or text your boss on Christmas or any other national holiday. They will definitely appreciate it, even if they won’t tell you about that.

Avoid gossiping

Office gossip is all too common these days. It seems some people forget what they have to do at work instead of gossiping. Whether you enjoy gossiping or you can’t avoid getting involved in gossip, consider your behavior and change it. While some bosses don’t pay attention to gossips, others can even fire you for them.

You don’t go to work each day to catch your boss’s attention. Your goal is to take your career to the next level. Don’t work too hard if you know your boss is ungrateful and they don’t care about their employees. If you work hard but they don’t notice it or pretend not to notice your excellent projects and unique ideas, there’s no sense in doing more than you should do. Or, maybe it’s time to start looking for another job. Being stuck in a dead end job with a boss who doesn’t appreciate your work and doesn’t respect you is just a waste of time and effort. Believe in yourself, stay confident and don’t allow your boss to ruin your career. You deserve the best.
