8 Times When You Should Avoid Social Media

Catalina 6 months ago - in Lifestyle

Nowadays most people can’t imagine their lives without social media and that’s a huge problem. We spend too much time on social media, albeit think we do a lot of useful things. Well, social media can help you boost your career and stay in touch with the people you love, I agree. But let’s be honest, when was the last time that you take a stroll in the park or enjoy a picnic in the forest? How do you spend your winter days? Let me guess, with your laptop, right? We are all guilty of using social media, and there’s nothing wrong with it. However, there are a few times when you should stay away from social media as long as possible.

1. When you are drunk

If you want to avoid different troubles when you are drunk, forget about social media. I know, I know, you can tell that you can control your mind, thoughts and tongue when you are drunk, but I don’t believe, because no one can do it. The problem is, most people don’t admit it. Actually, I try to shy away from people who are not brave enough to admit their mistakes. When the person is drunk, they can make lots of mistakes, especially online. Are you brave enough to admit and then correct your mistakes?

2. When you have an argument with someone

When we argue with someone, we tend to look for some advice. Most of us tend to turn to social media, but it’s not the best way out. It’s better to talk to your parent or close friends, or it’s even best to write down your thoughts and feelings. Avoid social media to settle an argument more peacefully.

3. When you are angry

Anger is a bad feeling, but we can’t control it at times. When you are feeling angry, it’s better to stay away from social media. First, you can hurt someone’s feelings and ruin someone’s day without meaning it. Second, you can ruin your relationships. Third, you can destroy your identity. No one wants to know about your anger or problems, so don’t share them on social media. Take a few deep breaths, go for a walk or take a relaxing bath to calm down and let go of your anger. Chamomile tea can be a good option as well. I know how it’s tempting to ruin someone else’s day when your day has already been ruined. But don’t do it! It’s not worth it!

4. When you’re dealing with depression

People who are trying to cope with depression can’t control their emotions. When we are depressed, we seek somebody’s help. We want everyone to cheer us up, inspire and encourage us, but it’s hard to find that help online. Don’t post and tweet about your feelings, instead, consult your doctor or talk to your parent or close friend. Hopefully, they will help you feel better.

5. When you have problems in your relationship

Forget about social media when you have any problems in your relationship. This way, you will avoid all those unwanted gossips and comments, and will solve your problems faster. There’s no sense in sharing about your fights with a partner on social media. It can destroy your relationship forever because most guys don’t like girls who share about all relationship problems on social media.

6. When you are dealing with the death of a loved one

There’s nothing worse than coping with the loss of a family member or close friend or pet. Many of us turn to social media, but we don’t find that support we need and it makes us feel worse. If you are dealing with the death of a loved one, stay away from social media at least for a while. Sure, it won’t make you feel better, but it won’t make you feel worse as well.

7. When you feel envious of others

Stop looking for people who are less successful than you are or who are unhappy right now. It won’t make you feel happier. Maybe it will, but for a while. When looking for miserable people, you will definitely find those who are rich, successful and happy, who have kids (and you don’t but really want) and who know how to enjoy their life to the fullest. Scrolling through comments and pictures of your happy friends will make you feel worse. Try to overcome your envy first. It’s always best to use social media when you feel happy.

8. When you want to vent

How often do you vent on social media? Just don’t tell me that you’ve never vented on social media. Everyone does it and it’s okay. But it all depends on the thing you are going to discuss. Anyway, it’s better to avoid social media when you want to vent. Call or meet your friend, and vent privately.
