4 Reasons You Should Stop Looking for Happiness

Every person in the world wants to be happy, but not everyone know what happiness is. Some people say that career, money and social status bring happiness, while others claim that their families and children make them happy. There are also people who think freedom and peacefulness are the main things in life that can make anyone happy. Each has own beliefs and thoughts, however, we often don’t see a difference between things that bring us a true joy and happiness and things that bring us passing pleasure. Let’s take money, for example. It’s so great to buy new things, follow the latest trends, travel around the world, stay in the most luxurious hotels and eat the most expensive food. You can buy anything (and even anyone) you want, and you think you are the happiest person in the world. But are you sure you are truly happy? You can’t stop making money and buying things, because if you do, you won’t feel happy.

Yesterday I visited my grandma and her close friend Miranda. When we spoke about family treasures and happiness, she told me that she was never happy until she realized she spent too much time and effort on things that brought her passing pleasure and joy. Miranda told me that people should never look for happiness because happiness is right next to them.

Happiness must never depend on money and dreams. If you consider yourself an unhappy person and you keep looking for happiness day by day, here are a few reasons you should stop doing it.

1. You will never find it

No matter how hard you try, you will never find happiness. A happy person is satisfied with their way of life, even if they don’t have money and expensive things. They are thankful for bread and water they have. They are grateful for their life, family and pets. They enjoy the nature and don’t let anyone hurt their feelings or change their minds. They don’t look for happiness because they are happy here and now. Many people spend their lives looking for happiness and they realize this mistake only when they are sick or when they are too old to start a new life.

2. You waste your precious time

Life is too short to waste it constantly looking for happiness. My friend once said, ‘I will find a good job, make lots of money and will be the happiest woman in the world.’ Today she has a wonderful job she loves and lots of money, but she is unhappy. She needed 15 years to understand it. Another my friend once said, ‘I will find my love, get married and will be the happiest person in the world.’ So what? Is she is happy now? No. Why? Because she was trying to find a true happiness and thought a marriage could make her happier, but ended up marrying a man she still doesn’t love. She has two beautiful kids and a wonderful husband, but she claims she is not happy and keeps looking for happiness. Don’t make rash decisions, you can be happy no matter what.

3. No one will make you happy

Yes, people you love and who love you can make you happy, but what should you do if you are lonely? Lonely people tend to look for happiness every minute, but end up feeling miserable. They say, ‘I can’t be happy because I have no one to make me happy.’ In fact, you are the only person who can make you happy. Stop thinking that other people can bring you joy and happiness. Start living a happy life right now.

4. Live in the present moment

One of the most important reasons to stop looking for happiness is because you don’t live in the present moment. Every day you think of the future events that will possibly make you happier. You spend too much time dreaming and making goals that you don’t notice the reality. Learn to appreciate all of the good things you already have in your life and you feel much happier and become more confident and successful.

Looking for happiness is not a bad thing at all. We all deserve to be happy. But you should do it wisely without ruining your present life. Cultivate gratitude and positivity, celebrate your life and you will never need to look for happiness and say, ‘I will be happier, when I’m richer or loved.’ Are you a happy person? Do you think people should stop looking for happiness today?
