5 Challenging Ways to Simplify Your Modern Life
The Internet is jammed with the seemingly easy tips, tricks and ways to make our lives simpler. In reality, simplifying a modern life is rather a challenge than an easy task. Regardless of where you live – in a big city or a small village – you will never avoid stress, distractions, problems, and drama.
People have the ability to get accustomed to even the most stressful lifestyle. It is great, but the disadvantages of such a lifestyle are frightening. Heart disease, cancer, depression, anxiety, insomnia, you name it. I suggest you challenge yourself today and give the following tips a try.
1. Make the things count
If you are anything like me and you have trouble getting rid of the things you do not need and you can’t stop stressing over new purchases, it is time to learn how to treat things right. I am still struggling with this habit and sure of my win one day. I believe you will win this little war too.
Make the time to check out all of the things you have in your house, from clothing and shoes to dishes and knick-knacks. What do you use regularly? What things do you see for the second, if not first, time? Get rid of those things you do not use (my best advice is donate them to people who have nothing at home) and stop buying new ones.
Just because your friend buys new dresses or photo frames every week or your coworker is running into debts to buy a new car, does not mean you should do it too. Live your own life. After all, we do not need a lot of things to be happy, do we?

2. Declutter your mental space
Grudges, past mistakes and failures, fears, problems, urgent tasks, grocery lists, and many other things clutter our mental space. Overthinking is not a habit; it is a disease that can slowly kill you. Worrying about the things you have no power to change has the same effect.
If you feel like your mental space is cluttered and you can’t think clearly, it is time to gradually declutter it. Take baby steps. The best results never come overnight. You need a plan. Create a list of all the things you should let go of and stay motivated until you accomplish it.
3. You have no control over the uncontrollable
Trying to control the uncontrollable? You are wasting your life. I am telling this to you and myself as well. As a super sensitive person, I never stop thinking about all the things happing around me. I can’t understand why people eat animals, and some big animals eat smaller animals, why some people die in their 90s while many babies die right after birth. There are many questions that trouble my mind 24/7, but I do realize that I have no control over the uncontrollable. Whether we want it or not, humans can’t control most of the actions, so do yourself a favor, and stop doing it.
4. Don’t be too hard on yourself
Take breaks. Commit mistakes. Sleep in. Eat your favorite desserts and do anything that makes your soul celebrate the life. Working too much, striving to perfectionism, judging yourself and hating the person you see in the mirror are all bad habits to ditch. Being overly critical of yourself will never bring happiness and success into your life. Keep it in mind.

5. Identify time-wasting activities
What things are the most important in your life? Chances are, you can’t answer this question right now. It is crucial to find out what your biggest time-wasting activities are, and make sure you eliminate them all from your life. Again, it will not happen overnight, but you may feel how simpler your life become.
It takes time and effort to eliminate things that make your life complicated. Living a simple life in a technology driven and money obsessed world is not easy, but it is up to you to decide whether to follow the crowd or march to your own beat.
