7 Fun Things to Do on Christmas Day
Whether you are going to spend Christmas Day alone or with family and friends, there are a few fun things you can do together to make this day more meaningful. Apart from wrapping gifts and baking Christmas cookies, you can listen and sing to your favorite Christmas songs, make Christmas decorations and watch your favorite Christmas movies, but still feel like you can’t get into the holiday spirit. Last year, I had to spend Christmas Day alone due to my business trip so I couldn’t get into the Christmas spirit. But I did find a few things that helped me to have a merry Christmas. Here are seven fun things I suggest that you try to do on Christmas Day this year.
1. Go caroling
Now, I’m absolutely serious. You don’t have to be a child to go caroling on Christmas Day. Whether you are at home or in a new city, why not have some fun and make Christmas more meaningful for people who don’t have opportunity to celebrate it? Visit a local nursing home, hospital, or homeless shelter to sing Christmas songs together. You can ask your family or friends to help you. If you are on a business trip, grab your coworker and go caroling together. Christmas is all about fun songs and lots of laugh!
2. Relax
Christmas is the perfect time to relax and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate by your fireplace. All those busy schedules, important projects, household chores and parties make you feel and look tired. It’s crucial to find at least 20 minutes to enjoy peace and quiet and clear your mind. If you live alone, you won’t have trouble finding a quiet place at home. If you have kids, ask them not to disturb you for at least 15 minutes. Turn off your phone, make your favorite hot chocolate or herbal tea, and enjoy some quiet time.
3. Make paper snowflakes
If you find yourself stuck in a hotel room or at home, there’s no reason to get bored. Make some paper snowflakes. It’s an old yet fun thing both adults and kids can do during the holiday season. There are many awesome paper snowflake ideas online, but you can always create your own designs. You can make small paper snowflakes to decorate your journal or scrapbook, or bigger ones to decorate your mirror, windows, ceiling and walls.
4. Visit a local church
If making paper snowflakes isn’t for you, consider visiting a local church. During the holiday season, especially on Christmas Day, many churches have interesting children’s programs or put on plays and cantatas, which are usually free. You won’t feel lonely on Christmas Day and you won’t ruin your budget. Visiting a local church at Christmas with your family is a good way to get your little ones into the Christmas spirit.

5. Read your favorite Christmas stories
One of the best things to do on Christmas Day is definitely to read Christmas stories. We often read those stories to our kids, but if you don’t have children, read them to yourself. Not only will it help you boost your Christmas spirit, it will also help you forget about your problems and worries. If you live alone, you can invite your friend to read some stories together. You will have lots of fun!
6. Decorate your house
Do you like to walk around and enjoy the bright lights on houses in your neighborhood? Chances are that your answer is ‘yes.’ Have you already decorated your own house? If no, it’s time to look for bright lights and decorations. Let people enjoy your beautiful Christmassy house and spread the Christmas cheer in your neighborhood. Encourage and help your neighbors to decorate their houses as well.
7. Help people in need
Believe it or not, but not everyone can afford to celebrate Christmas. If you know anyone who can’t afford to buy a Christmas tree, decorate their house or prepare a Christmas dinner, try to help them. You don’t have to spend lots of money, though. See what you can do for them; I’m sure they will appreciate any help. You can also bake some Christmas cookies and pass out them to homeless people. We are all human beings and we need to support each other, especially during the holiday season. Don’t forget to feed stray animals! Animals need our help too!
There are many wonderful things you can do on Christmas Day. Whatever you do, be sure to enjoy this holiday season to the fullest. Forget about your worries and problems. Christmas is all about smiles and happiness, no matter whether you celebrate it alone or with family. What other things do you usually do on Christmas Day?
