How to Get a Summer Glow without Tanning

Kate Gitman 6 months ago - in Lifestyle

Hello, stellar tans! Summer means ousting that pasty, ashy skin you have been sporting all winter for something more bronzed and toasted. But with all the risks of lounging in a UV tanning bed or out in the sunlight for hours, what is a girl to do? Fortunately, there are sunless ways to get a summer glow without ever laying down or setting foot inside a tanning bed.

1. Self tanner

Faux glow is easy to achieve now that self-tanner is smarter and easier than ever. To prep for use, be sure to exfoliate (avoiding anything that has microbeads in it, because these harm the environment). Use something natural, like sugar or coffee scrub. Afterwards, apply an all-natural tanner that is certified organic (to avoid any cancer causing chemicals). You can apply it liberally. Repeat for 3 days or longer for a deeper hue.

2. Cocoa and cream

Okay, it may seem a bit weird, but natural, unprocessed cocoa powder can be used to give you a fake tan. It has to be 100% pure and with no added sugar (unless you want to look like a Hershey bar). Add some of the cocoa powder to your favorite, organic body lotion (with Moroccan argan oils for the best results) to achieve a nice shade. You can always add more cocoa to the cream, just be sure to mix it in thoroughly.

3. Bronzing powder

Ready for quick and hassle-free? Bronzing powder is not a head-to-toe solution, but it is an easy way to get a glowing face and jaw-dropping cleavage. Apply just a little with a large brush wherever the sun will naturally highlight your face, like the nose, forehead, cheekbones, and chin. Look for brands that are talc-free and enriched with natural ingredients like jojoba oil, olive oil, red clay, and fruit pulp. This will keep your pores from getting clogged.

4. Dry oil

Though technically not as permanent as self-tanner, dry oils do add a golden shimmer to your skin that will make you look freshly tan. Opt for quick drying, non-greasy formula that can work on both skin and hair. Anything that contains vitamin E and organic oils (like almond, hazel, olive, sunflower, macadamia, and camellia) is going to work wonderfully.

5. Stay hydrated

The easiest way to maintain your radiance? Stay hydrated! Seriously, nothing will dull you out and drain you of color quicker than getting dehydrated (except maybe your worst fear coming true). Always carry water with you. Infuse it with cucumber and fruits to make it more nourishing for you skin.
